Tim Griffith evaluates Latin compositions prepared by beginning Latin students at New Saint Andrews. Latin compositions work best when,
1) Students are only allowed to use words and constructions they are familiar with in Latin.
2) Students avoid writing their composition in English first.
3) The teacher spends some time discussing with the student both the good and the bad.
4) Other students are invested in fixing any mistakes.
5) Students are encouraged to take risks (in moderation).
